GOURGEOUS PICTURES! What a BEAUTY! The more I watch your blog, the more I like it.
The scientific name of this beauty is Haematopus ostralegus. We call it "Ostrero euroasíatico" in Spanish language. In English, I think it is called "Eurasian Oystercatcher".
Well, your australian friend will know its English name better than me.
Great photos and it looks like a Pied Oystercatcher to me - although slightly different markings from the ones we have here in Australia.
SvarSlettGreat shots again....your photo's a very good.
SvarSlettgreetings, Joop
My current favourite bird to see.
SvarSlettBeautiful images.
Beautiful bird--the white on the wings and tail are striking. Great shots. Mickie :)
SvarSlettGood shots!
SvarSlettHe's beautiful. Looks a little like the Oystercatchers I've seen, but not quite. Hope you get an answer.

SvarSlettGood photos!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
SvarSlettGreat shots of the oystercatcher. They are cool looking birds.
SvarSlettLovely photos - I like the first shot especially. You are also very good at capturing birds in flight, something I cannot do at all.
SvarSlettITS a real beauty..definately an oyster catcher but now sure which one exactly...
SvarSlettBuena serie del ostrero

SvarSlettHi there - I agree with Charrancito its and oystercatcher - I think they are called Tjeld in Norwegian!

They say, the birds evolved from dinosaurs in early JURI, about 180 million years ago....
SvarSlett...and today there are among us to admire them
Beautiful series
Beautiful birds. I've been watching a pair of these raise a young one, at my local lake.
SvarSlettFascinating bird! Great shots! I love the red eyes. Our "American Oystercatcher" look very similar.
SvarSlettWonderful capture! The color in these photos is rich. Your oystercatcher is almost cartoonish with that bright bill and intense eyes! Excellent work!
SvarSlettWonderful captures of the Oystercatcher!
